Cultural Diversity and Identity
At Eagle’s Nest: A Place To Soar, cultural identity is not an afterthought, it’s the foundation of who we are. We believe that strong cultural connections are essential for healing and growth.
Eagle’s Nest: A Place to Soar was created in April 2009 to provide Indigenous youth in out-of-home care with a culturally appropriate place to live. Eagle’s Nest was founded by our founder who is from Delaware Nation EELÜNAAPÉEWI LAHKÉEWIIT . At least two thirds of the Caregivers and staff who worked for the agency had Indigenous ancestry. Some of our homes are located on a First Nation community.
Eagle’s Nest immerses the Caregivers and children in the Indigenous way of life with intensive, ongoing training by Indigenous people, participation in Ceremonies, stories, songs, socials, places, and things which provide our children with pride in their roots.
The children in our care have suffered from multi-generational complex trauma, developmental challenges, complex medical needs, loss, deprivation, racism, and historical unequal access to health care and educational resources. Eagle’s Nest works with service partners and communities to restore balance and wellbeing to our children throughout the four directions, Spiritual, Mental, Physical and Emotional.
